As
an eighteen year old boy, I entered the picturesque
lush green campus of Trivandrum Medical College, Kerala,
India, on August 1, 1961, with enthusiasm. I went through
undergraduate and postgraduate training programs of
Universities of Kerala and Osmania respectively in stiff
traditional formats. My mentors were extraordinary and
illustrious and born teachers, they motivated me to
enter the challenging field of medical educational pursuits.
I grew by passing through several medical educational
programs; I started sensing the weakness of 'traditional'
system of teaching / learning processes. Equally was
I aware of the strengths of that system in acquiring
knowledge base.
With my National Teacher Training Course participation
in JIPMER, Pondichery, my passion towards newer pedagogic
methods expanded . This was reinforced by my playing
an active role in Teacher Training Course in Trivandrum
College first as a participant, then as a member in
its Faculty and later as its Director and in International
Clinical Epidemiology Network (INCLEN) / Clinical Epidemiology
Research Training Centre (CERTC) Unit of Trivandrum
Medical College as its Sponsor / Patron .
Also was I lucky to get direct involvement enabling
me to know what is currently happening in the field
of education and health care delivery systems from Institutes
/ Universities like All India Institute of Medical Sciences
and Moulana Azad Medical College both from Delhi, Loma
Linda University and Johns Hopkins University, West
Virginia University and Mayo Clinic, all from the USA
and Tribhuvan University/ Institute of Medicine and
B.P.Koirala Institute of Health Sciences both of Nepal.
I drew inspiration from the works of WHO centres of
Medical Education in Dundee and Peredeniya .
My first hand involvement as a Team Man in setting up
Universal Empire's Prime Project in Nepal, viz., Universal
College of Medical Sciences affiliated to University
and functioning under Institute of Medicine could help
me fully appreciate the beneficial facets of integrated
and problem – based learning in medical education,
since Tribhuvan University / Institute of Medicine medical
curriculum is integrated, problem-based and community
oriented. Presently I’m a transformed Health Professional
– a change for the better.

hospitals world wide ,awards MBBS degree – after
periodic and summative rigorous evaluation procedures
conducted directly by the IUHS. Candidates who are declared
successfully by the I.U.H.S. can appear USMLE step I
and step II in the USA and the equivalent in other countries
like U.K., Australia, Middle East & India.
MD/MS/ MDS Program is of 3 years duration . I have great
pleasure in assuring high quality training and meaningful
outreach activities leading to the award of IUHS degrees
through I.U.H.S accredited Training Centres Viz.Universal
Empire Institute of Medical Sciences, Cochin & Dubai.
