The Formation
The Emirates Medical Students’ Society (EMSS) was formed following the 1st UAE Medical Students Conference in March, 2006 held at Dubai World Trade Center, the brainchild being Dubai Medical College for Girls. The founding members of the EMSS are: Dubai Medical College for Girls, Gulf Medical College and UEIMS School of Medicine and Dentistry. The other senior members of the council included University of Sharjah – College of Medicine and University of Seychelles – American Institute of Medicine, Dubai. The EMSS aims to officially represent medical students of the U.A.E on both a national & international level and create a national centre for communication, where all medical students can come together.

The Executive Council
The EMSS has its own executive council which initially consisted of a President, a General Secretary and 3 senior executive positions. The first EMSS presidential candidacy went to Dubai Medical College for Girls while Gulf Medical College occupied the General Secretary seat following the declaration of them being the hosts for the 2nd UAE Medical Students’ Conference. The senior executive positions were held by the other universities. By the end of its first year in office, the EMSS council introduced a Vice Presidential seat which was to be occupied at the end of the 2nd UAE Medical Students’ Conference. With the executive council deciding that UEIMS School of Medicine and Dentistry to be the hosts for the 3rd edition of the event, the current council has as its occupants; Gulf Medical College – President, Dubai Medical College for Girls – Vice President and UEIMS School of Medicine and Dentistry – General Secretary. The second year also noted the merger of UEIMS – School of Medicine and Dentistry and University of Seychelles – American Institute of Medicine and also the inclusion of a new member in the form of Ras Al Khaimah Medical & Health Sciences University.

The Annual UAE Medical Students’ Conference
The Annual UAE Medical Students Conference is one of the main events organized by EMSS. Each year a member college has the honour to host this event and with every year the event has seen massive improvement in the number of participants, attendees and the overall quality of the presentations. With Categories like: Literature Reviews, Case Studies, Poster Presentations and Researches, the students are not only able to discuss topics which interest them but also interact with their fellow medical students and share ideas and solutions. External and Internal Judges evaluate the students’ presentations solely on their presentation skills, information and general interest. The results are extremely legitimate and confidential until the final announcement to the audience. The sponsors of this huge event include great philanthropists like S. S. Lootah and Thumbay Group whose cooperation and unfaltering faith in the Society's potential greatly helped in the success of this event.
The conference has also been honoured by its share of dignitaries in the form of Dr. Ali Shakar the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Robert Thurer, Chief Academic Officer of the Harvard Medical Schools in Dubai, Prof. Hosam Hamdy Dean – College of Medicine, University of Sharjah, Prof. Muscat Baron – Clinical Dean, Dubai Medical College for Girls and His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Majid Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman Ruler’s Court, Ajman as the chief of the 2nd UAE Medical Students Conference. The 2nd UAE Medical Students’ Conference also saw a giant leap towards progress in the path of the EMSS with the successful organization of workshops with support of Gulf Medical College as part of the Post Conference Event. The overwhelming response received clearly showed the appreciation and support of the EMSS by the medical students in the UAE.
