| The
two year Pre-Clinical Phase at UEIMS greatly equips
the medical student for the practical analysis and in
depth understanding requisite during the Clinical Phase.
Unlike a traditional medical student, who completes
Basic Science subjects individually per annum, a UEIMS
Pre-Med student prepares himself/herself for the theoretical
aspects of all Basic sciences, Para-Clinical and Clinical
subjects. The real value primes during the Clinical
phase when the practical bed side teaching is well comprehended
and built on the concepts learnt during the Pre-Med
years.
Studying Basic Sciences and Clinical
subjects together, encourages the student to undertake
a well balanced approach to a case. Being exposed to
clinical subjects early on props up the interest and
curiosity as well. While sharing experiences with friends
and relatives, facts of prevalent illnesses reinforces
concepts in the Pre-Med student who has perhaps just
studied a similar case; very much in contrast to the
traditional Medical student who is still probably dealing
with just the beginning of Anatomy or Physiology.
The Preclinical years hence demand
high levels of concentration and dedication for the
study of a vast syllabus. However it’s all a pleasure
with an appropriate management of time for leisure and
relaxation. A thorough utility of the Pre-Med years
to gain all possible knowledge makes the Clinical Phase
easier to pursue and certainly more fascinating.
A UEIMS student not only aims for perfection
in gaining knowledge, but also strives in emerging as
a well-groomed humanitarian. The importance of ethics
in the Medical field is highly stressed upon right from
the start of the course. Every Case-Study is finally
summarized in realization of the Behavioral Science
and Community Medicine aspects. This greatly creates
a mind-set in the student to aim, in future, for prevention
and cure in a global population - an aspiration to bring
forth Universal health and compassion.
